Design Influence: Roy Lichtenstein

When I really started to like Litchenstein's work was when my classmate used his style to do her final project. A year later I was at the Museum of Modern art in New York, I confused his painting to be one of Andy Warhol's. What makes Roys work different was his use of "Benday Dots", a term used in the printing world coined by the inventor Benjamin Day. Benday Dots are similar to today's digital technique using pixels to form color, much like pointillism.

Andy and Roy's work were similar due their use of high contrasting colors and thick strokes. Roy applied his technique to "comic book" subject material, where Warhol would apply his color and strokes to different inspiring subjects.

I hope you enjoy these coins as it will be the LAST pocketpups.net series for quite some time. I will be experimenting with some new subject matter in upcoming projects.
